In mice, that approach boosted regeneration, reduced inflammation, and improved nutrient handling (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, 2026). California’s stem-cell agency has also funded work to use intestinal organoids and cell therapy for inflammatory bowel disease, where the lining is chronically damaged (California Institute for Regenerative Medicine [CIRM], n.d.).
Some regenerative programs study mesenchymal stem cells for delayed stomach emptying, or gastroparesis. The hoped-for effects are less inflammation, better nerve and muscle support, and improved local circulation (Stemwell, n.d.). These reports are early and often come from specialized clinics. They still add to a larger point: the digestive tract is living tissue that may respond to repair signals.
IV nutrient support is sometimes used when the gut cannot absorb well. Peptides and stem-cell strategies fall into the same family of “help the tissue rebuild” tools (Vida Revival, n.d.). These tools are not interchangeable, and none are approved for routine use. The shared aim is mucosal integrity.
Targeting Leaky Gut With Gastric-Protective Peptides
BPC-157 is a lab-made chain of 15 amino acids modeled on a protective fragment from human gastric juice. Because it comes from a stomach-protection story, researchers have spent decades asking whether it can shield and rebuild gut tissue (Sikiric et al., 2020; Chang et al., 2025).

Park and colleagues reported that BPC-157 helped stabilize intestinal permeability after NSAID injury. It was linked with higher tight-junction support, including ZO-1, and with lower inflammatory messenger activity (Park et al., 2020).
