Activity

Physical activity has so many benefits to the health of the body. It helps achieve and maintain a healthy weight, reduces the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, and reduces the risk of illnesses like cancer and heart disease. For most individuals, participating in physical activity is safe. However, individuals with underlying conditions should check with their doctor or a qualified exercise professional before beginning an exercise regimen.

Activity

Physical activity is defined as bodily movement produced by the skeletal muscles that require energy. It could refer to all movement that includes leisure time movement, for transport getting to and from places/areas, or as part of a job work occupation. Both moderate and advanced intensity physical activity improves health. Ways to be active include:

  • Walking
  • Cycling
  • House chores/tasks
  • Sports
  • Active recreation
  • Playing games
  • It can be done at any skill level

Regular physical activity is proven to help prevent and manage non-communicable diseases like:

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Different cancers.
  • It has been shown to help:
  • Prevent hypertension
  • Maintain healthy body weight
  • Improve mental health and quality of life.
